Title VI How-To Guide

Filing a Title VI Complaint

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) and Public Justice have launched a how-to guide for filing a Title VI complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of this guide is for all parents and K-12 students to understand Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a law that bans discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in schools. Informed by our work alongside Palestinian, South Asian, and Muslim communities, we created this guide to support students facing harassment and abuse in schools.

Title VI complaints can force a school to address discriminatory actions that the school has allowed to persist, or discrimination that the school has caused directly. In this political climate, this tool is more important than ever before.
