Press Release
Volunteers still needed for 2020 Asian American Exit Poll and Poll Monitoring
Our democracy is at stake in the 2020 presidential election. We need your help to ensure that Asian Americans can exercise their fundamental right to vote.
On November 3, AALDEF will dispatch attorneys and volunteers to polling places across the country to document voter problems and the availability of language assistance for Asian Americans. We will also conduct a nonpartisan multilingual exit poll to get a snapshot of candidate preferences, party enrollment, and issues of significance to Asian American voters. AALDEF has conducted exit polls of Asian American voters and monitored polls in every major election since 1988.
Although more Asian Americans are voting by mail this year because of the pandemic, many others will do early voting or go to polling places on Election Day to secure assistance from interpreters. Our volunteers will help to ensure that Asian American voters are not turned away, intimidated, or discriminated against during the voting process.
This year, we are seeking volunteers in the following states: California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The health and safety of our volunteers and the voters is our top priority. We will provide necessary PPE at poll sites and adhere to social distancing guidelines to make sure all volunteers and voters are safe at all times.
We need you on Election Day to volunteer and help us to protect voting rights for all. If you would like to volunteer with us on Election Day, please fill out the volunteer form here.
