Aug. 14 & 23: Candidates forums for NYS Assembly District 65 & Senate District 16
Two candidates forums wlll be held in Manhattan and Flushing, where Asian American candidates are running in Assembly District 65 (Manhattan/Lower East Side) and Senate District 16 (Flushing, Elmhurst, Fresh Meadows, Bayside) in the Democratic primary elections on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
AALDEF and other APA Voice groups are sponsoring a New York State Assembly 65th District candidates forum on Sunday, August 14 in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Six candidates, including four Asian Americans, are vying to fill the seat vacated by former Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver in this Chinatown and the Lower East Side district: Alice Cancel (incumbent), Don Lee, Gigi Lee, Paul Newell, Yuh-line Niou, and Jenifer Rajkumar. Translation will be provided in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish. The Democratic primary will take place on Sept. 13, 2016.

On Tuesday, August 23, a candidates forum will be held at the Flushing Queens Library with two candidates for NYS Senate District 16: incumbent Toby Ann Stavisky and Korean American candidate S.J. Jung. MSNBC news anchor Richard Lui will moderate the forum. Translation will be provided in Bengali, Cantonese, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, and Mandarin.
