Major Legal Victory for NY Chinatown Workers
Law Professors — AALDEF, together with pro bono counsel Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, is representing 22 former workers of Chinatown’s Jin Hua Restaurant, including waiters, waitresses, bussers, and dim sum workers, who had been denied minimum wage, overtime, and in some cases, their entire paycheck. But after Jin Hua closed, its corporate owner claimed it wasn’t responsible – leaving the workers no recourse. AALDEF went to court, and the judge ruled for the workers: AALDEF can now seek over $100,000 in damages on their behalf.
