Oct. 24: AALDEF theater party for David Henry Hwang’s M. Butterfly
Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 for the new Broadway revival of playwright David Henry Hwang’s M. Butterfly, starring Clive Owen. Hwang will join us for a talkback after the performance, so you don’t want to miss this wonderful event.
Hwang’s groundbreaking Tony-Award-winning play is about a French diplomat in China who falls in love with a Chinese opera diva in a tale of international espionage and personal betrayal. The story is based on the real-life love affair between diplomat Bernard Boursicot and opera singer Shi Pei Pu.
Hwang is a recipient of AALDEF’s 1989 Justice in Action award and a long-time AALDEF supporter. We have organized theater parties for several of Hwang’s plays, including the original 1988 production of M. Butterfly, the Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song, FOB, Family Devotions, Golden Child, Yellow Face, and Chinglish.
